ASPE 2023 Annual Conference: "Making a Difference: Individually Dedicated & Collectively Strong"

The ASPE 2023 Conference “Making a Difference: Individually Dedicated & Collectively Strong” will take place in-person from June 4-7, 2023, with pre-conference sessions beginning June 3, 2023, and will include a highly selective program of workshops, presentations, posters, and plenary sessions. To support a virtual component to the 2023 conference, you will be asked about your comfort with alternate delivery models of your session: In addition to in-person delivery of my proposed session, I am also willing to present my session: 1) live streaming, 2) recorded live for dissemination to attendees, 3) I am only comfortable presenting in person with no recording made of my session. Abstracts are due: Monday, November 21, 2022 11:59 PM EDT

2023 Innovation Summit for Health Professions Education at Creighton University

Is Imposter Syndrome Really That Bad? Reframing Imposter Syndrome into 'Competent Humility'

Imposter syndrome was identified in 1978 by Dr. Pauline Rose Clance and Dr. Suzanne Imes as “Intellectual Phoniness”. Often associated with high performing leaders, it has been highlighted to be more common in women (“Lean In” By Sheryl Sandberg). Recently, there has been increasing conversations led by business leaders and organizational psychologists such as Adam Grant (”Think Again”) that suggest reframing the imposter syndrome to be a motivating leadership development skill. Dr. Grant refers to this reframing as the establishment of “competent humility.”

Tried and Tested: Strategies to Implement Virtual Synchronous Interprofessional Education Sessions Using Standardized Patients

During this workshop, we will share lessons learned on how to manage logistics, create clear instructions, and encourage participation from all learners to institute a streamlined virtual learning experience for students, facilitators, and standardized patients (SPs). We will describe how we re-designed synchronous IPE sessions focused on providing team-based care to a patient with ongoing chronic pain who is taking opioids to facilitate collaborative interaction using the cloud-based videoconferencing platform, Zoom.

Grand Rounds features School of Medicine faculty and regional, national, and international leaders in their fields who present on a variety of current topics in medicine.
