Transitions Inside the Labyrinth of Caregiving

Dr. Parker Oliver will merge her research with caregivers at the end of life and her personal experience in caring for her husband, providing participants with both the knowledge and the heart of caregivers for patients at the end of life. Using an interprofessional lens she will share how the health care system can change to become family focused and minimize interactional suffering.

Objectives:

Understand of the science behind caregiving

Discuss the caregiving experience from the perception of the caregiver

Identify healthcare practices leading to interactional suffering

Describe strategies to minimize alienation of patients and families and facilitate healthy adaptation to change, loss and grief
