December 2022 Conversations in IPE: Successful Integration of Human Trafficking and Trauma-Informed Care Content into IPE/IPP
Dec 14, 2022 11:00 AM - 01:00 PM

Human trafficking is a major public health concern that affects individuals, families, and entire communities across generations. Human trafficking occurs in all 50 US states and countries around the world. Greater than 88% of human trafficking victims interact with the healthcare system before, during, and after the period of victimization. These encounters provide healthcare professionals and teams the opportunity to play a critical role in reducing the impact of human trafficking in the United States. Additionally, interprofessional collaboration is key to addressing human trafficking challenges both domestically and internationally. Integrating human trafficking and trauma-informed care concepts into interprofessional education can also collectively address gaps in knowledge of human trafficking identification, care, and response that may be present in the uni-professional curricula of many health professions. During this virtual Conversation in IPE event, examples of IPE programs with successful integration of human trafficking and/or trauma-informed care content will be highlighted and shared through a featured presentation and multiple breakout room discussions.
